The Gadgets I Can’t Live Without: David Lawson
— March 04, 2013
Senior Vice President of Technology, Professional Services, and Facilities Universal Hospital Services (UHS)
David has over 30 years of experience in healthcare and financial services IT and is responsible for the company’s technology nationwide. As an avid movie buff as well as an extreme home handyman, David hates to admit he has a real geeky side. But he does fess up and believes, thankfully, that “the world needs geeky people.” What has been fun for David to see, is the convergence of devices and gadgets for the home theater movie buff. With his favorite gadgets he has cut the cable cord and is enjoying new levels of home theater joy.
This is the conductor for my home theater; Yamaha app controls receiver, Pandora and blue ray player. Other app controls
TV and media streamer. Cool factor skyrockets when I can view something on the iPad and shoot it up to the big screen.
Yamaha RX-A2020 Home Theater Receiver
This web-enabled, Wi-Fi connected powerhouse is the nerve-center for my home theater. An app controls it from any iOS or Android device. One can control the receiver from anywhere. No more aiming the remote control at the receiver.
I got frustrated with the price of cable service and decided to “cut the cord.” We are fine without a land line, so why not eliminate our cable service? With this device we can access lots of content, but the “can’t live without” feature is its ability to push just about anything you are watching up to the big screen for viewing.
Western Digital Media Streamer
Has a 1tb drive that holds 100s of movie; streams beautifully to big screen; plays music collection which I store on an attached USB drive.
RIDGID Hyper-Lith X4 Cordless Impact Driver
Somebody has to install all this stuff. And with an impact driver I become the powerhouse I always wanted to be! This thing easily drives those 3” screws into the wall to hold up that big flat screen TV. It is DIY nirvana.
