New Year, New Opportunities

By  Martha Walz
As we settle into 2011, we see some new trends emerging in enterprise mobility. Machine-to-machine (M2M) wireless communication is poised to take off, as evidenced by the recent growth in M2M offerings from the major carriers as well as joint ventures and collaborations between M2M providers. As such, in February, Mobile Enterprise is releasing “Leveraging M2M for a Complete Solution,” a thought leadership paper focused on M2M. It will explain the roles of each player in the M2M space and how their products/services contribute to the M2M value chain.

This paper is the first in our six-part thought leadership series that we will be publishing throughout the year. The series will focus on how to use strategic data to make decisions in your enterprise surrounding different topics in enterprise mobility.

Other topics to be covered in this series are supply chain, cloud services, mobile device management (MDM), switching from one application/vendor to another solution, and how to get buy-in from your CEO/CFO on new mobility deployments.

M2M isn’t the only thing to watch in 2011. The mobile OS wars are heating up, and it will be interesting to see who will come out on top. BlackBerry has a solid foothold in the enterprise, but iOS and Android are coming up fast.

In addition, more rugged devices than ever are coming to market, but how do you know if they are right for your workforce? A special supplement in this issue, “Is Rugged Right For You?” addresses just that. We take a look at three rugged device deployments and the decision-making processes behind them to help you form your own answer to that question.

2011 will be a year of new technologies and new opportunities in enterprise mobility. Mobile Enterprise will be on top of them. Will you?
