The Gadgets I Can't Live Without - November 2010
Keith Rettas
Business Systems Integration Team Leader, Public Service Electric and Gas
Keith is Project Management Professional (PMP) certified with a background in utility customer operations and cost planning. His responsibilities consist of annual PC and mobile data terminal refresh programs, annual utility IT project planning, and managing programs for security.
OLDEST GADGET
Portable DVD player
The only reason I still use it today (even without the remote...see below) is to justify to myself the $1,400 price tag it came with back in the late 90s which I felt was ok to pay for this thing. Ah, to be young with no responsibilities.
STRICTLY PERSONAL
BlackBerry
I have access to any Web site at any moment, and I can be reached by phone, text, or e-mail by family members and friends. My wife can also use it for directions since I never ask.
ENTERTAINMENT
Remote control
The greatest invention is the remote control to the TV/receiver. The convenience it provides is priceless and only realized once the batteries go dead and you actually have to get up to change the channel/volume.
ON MY DESK
My monitor
It displays a picture of my son to show me everyday what is important and why I come to work.
STRICTLY BUSINESS
Laptop
Years ago I stopped bringing paper to meetings. All of my daily responsibilities, as well as historical records, e-mails, and documents, are accessible within seconds via my laptop no matter where I am. Being that my handwriting is atrocious and slow, typing information and reading it later is much easier.
