EMM (Not Dorothy’s Aunt)

By  Lori Castle
This is the last print issue of 2012 and, as is tradition, we reveal the Mobilizer Award winners. (Page 9)  From Mobilizing Business Applications, Enterprise Wide Mobility, Field Service and Mobile Device Management to the Most Innovative Use of Mobility, it takes a lot to be recognized by your peers. Congratulations to the winners! All submissions were considered and thoroughly reviewed by the Mobile Enterprise Editorial Advisory Board and we thank them for their time.

In a conversation with one of the winners, he pointed out that beyond the business case that drove the winning deployment, once his company started to look across the business with a mobile perspective, many new opportunities became clear. You will hear more about this during the opening session on day two of the Mobile Enterprise Executive Summit (Nov. 6-9).

As is also tradition this month, we partner with Yankee Group for the “Outlook on Mobility” (page  MO1) report where we take a look at key moments from last year and a look ahead to  2013.

We welcome Chris Marsh, who authored this report for the first time, to our Editorial Advisory Board. This information will also be reviewed live at the Summit and during a webinar on Nov. 13. That event features Yankee Group senior analyst Rich Karpinski and a panel of speakers from Kimberly-Clark Corp., University Hospital and First Solar, Inc.

In the report, Chris mentions that in 2013  companies will move towards EMM (enterprise mobile management), representing an end-to-end strategy, rather than one off deployments when it comes to mobile initiatives.

We also heard a lot about this idea at MobileCon last month. Many in the industry use EMM, while others are reclaiming MEM  for mobile enterprise management.

However, the big question is, no matter what you call it:  Is your company on the path to EMM? Will you be approaching mobility holistically? Or are you working on one piece at a time? (MDM, MAM, the other MEM, etc.)

Email me at LoriC@mobileenterprisemag.com and tell me what you think. I’ll review the responses (without naming names) in my next note. Have a great holiday season!
