Ever-Evolving Mobility

By  Martha Walz

Changes abound in the mobile enterprise and at Mobile Enterprise. As such, you've probably noticed that the photo on this page isn't the one you've come to know as the face of the magazine. That privilege now belongs to me, your new editor-in-chief.

By way of introduction, my name is Martha Walz, and I'm new to the world of enterprise mobility. My background is on the R&D side of things, and I'm excited to transition to the user side, one that presents its own unique set of challenges and issues.

As I learn the industry, I welcome your feedback on the content of the magazine and the issues that are most important to you, our readers. Drop me a line at MarthaW@MobileEnterpriseMag.com to give me your comments or just to say hello.

As for the wider world of enterprise mobility, one big change is the shift in WLAN connectivity from being a "nice-to-have" technology to an "essential-to-have" technology.

In this issue, we take a look back over the past year since the 802.11n standard was ratified by the IEEE Standards Committee. We see that as enterprises move forward with WLAN deployments, they realize a host of unforseen benefits, regardless of the initial impetus behind 802.11n adoption.

Fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) takes advantage of this technology, and we examine the potential benefits of FMC in your enterprise and outline how to adopt an FMC strategy.

We also touch on how to choose the best smartphone for your enterprise and explore whether the Android OS is enterprise-ready.

This, my first issue of the magazine, has given me a good introduction into the world of enterprise mobility, and I'm eager to learn all I can about the industry.

I also look forward to getting to know our readers, and most importantly, to delivering you the very best information possible on enterprise mobility.
