Access to Files No Matter What

— February 12, 2014 has launched APIdoc, the first in a series of offerings to enable secure data access, sharing and collaboration. A single API that facilitates connections to all file-sharing and storage technologies, APIdoc enables access to files wherever they reside – whether behind the firewall or in the cloud.

Cloud providers, application developers, systems integrators and IT departments can integrate with existing applications, simplify software design and significantly reduce development and maintenance costs, while ensuring that digital assets are secure, auditable and conform to corporate compliance policies.

Instead of requiring a separate connection to each storage location, resulting in extensive time and effort from highly skilled technical resources for development and maintenance, APIdoc enables developers to write to a single API that then passes the appropriate commands to various storage connectors.

“Much to IT's chagrin, it is common to see different groups inside an organization using different vendors for similar functionality. Services that reduce the complexity this causes and allow for simpler application development can reduce costs and improve user experiences,” said Alan Lepofsky, VP & Principal, Analyst Constellation Research.

The new offering supports 12 storage connectors, including Box, Dropbox, Microsoft SharePoint, IBM Filenet Content Manager, EMC Documentum, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive, Amazon S3, HP Worksite, docSTAR, SunGard and – and will add two to five new connectors each month. In addition, APIdoc comes with a fully integrated SDK that supports rapid development of any custom storage connector under the single API connector platform.

Key Benefits:
Easy integration with existing applications
 – APIdoc supplements known API management systems such as Apigee, accelerating deployment through pre-built standard API functions for all common file and data handling

Significantly reduced development and maintenance costs – APIdoc provides a single communications platform that continually isolates all evolutions on backend storage from applications so developers spend less time managing change to storage interfaces

Simplified software design – APIdoc removes the complexity of backend storage access from developers so they can concentrate on process features and the user interface

Compliance with corporate security policies – APIdoc includes a full suite of metadata to support audit and compliance requirements for data management across platforms and locations, enforcing corporate integrity for all storage connections

“In a matter of weeks, APIdoc simply eliminated months of development time,” said Nathan Tamblin, Co-Founder, Stratospherix, maker of FileBrowser. “Now we have access to every storage type that supports through a single API.”
