Ascom, Enterasys Work Together on Interoperability

Ascom Wireless Solutions, a supplier of on-site mobile mission-critical communications, and Enterasys Networks, a Siemens Enterprise Communications company and global provider of wired and wireless network infrastructure and security solutions, announced they have certified interoperability between its VoWi-Fi handset, the Ascom i62, and the Enterasys 3600 series wireless access points.

Peter Härdi, vice president, international marketing and product management for Ascom Wireless Solutions, says, “We are happy to work with Enterasys to deliver a joint solution meeting the needs of both our customers. This cooperation guarantees that customers can rely on a secure and high-performance VoWi-Fi solution based on 802.11n standards. It will enable us to provide our customers a more comprehensive mobile enterprise solution.”

“We have designed, validated, and tested these solutions in order to meet the high expectations of our mutual customers in the areas of superior performance, best in class reliability, and quality of service,” says Ram Appalaraju, vice president of marketing for Enterasys Networks. “Ascom and Enterasys have worked to develop a solution that exceeds the standard Wi-Fi interoperability certifications. We are providing higher call capacities at greater ranges, with better call quality for each user. This meets end user expectation for wired-like performance with seamless mobility”.

The solutions were jointly tested at the Ascom Interoperability Lab and the Enterasys Wireless Interoperability Lab. The interoperability testing started with an emphasis on basic connectivity, with further testing conducted to ensure high security support, quality of service, mobility, stability, and performance during roaming. On-going interoperability testing will be performed for new software releases or feature enhancements to ensure continual interoperability between the companies’ solutions.
