Children's Hospital System Taps Lawson Software to Improve Financial Reporting and Control Costs
Shriners Hospitals for Children has contracted Lawson Software to deploy a financial management system that will help the health giant centralize the creation of financial reports and control supply costs. The system also will help materials managers negotiate better contracts.
The hospital system licensed the Lawson Supply Chain Management and Enterprise Financial Management suites to help it consolidate disparate business systems onto one common technology platform, enhance financial reporting and control supply costs.
Shriners Hospitals for Children is an international 1,032-bed system of 22 hospitals in the United States, Canada and Mexico. It provides free treatment of orthopedic problems, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate for children up to the age of 18 – regardless of financial need or relationship to a Shriner.

The Lawson Professional Services team will assist Shriners Hospitals with its implementation, which will begin in November. Once installed, the new Lawson system will enable Shriners Hospitals to automate core business processes and workflows across its 22 facilities. Specifically, the Lawson Supply Chain Management suite will help the hospital system control supply costs by consolidating orders with contracted suppliers for volume discounts. It also will enable materials managers to negotiate more favorable contracts based on greater insight into supply usage trends at individual hospitals and across the organization.
The Lawson Enterprise Financial Management suite will support Shriners Hospitals' corporate governance efforts. It also will allow the healthcare provider to centralize the creation of financial reports to meet hospital and consolidated corporate reporting requirements while retaining hospital-level budgetary control.
