Founded in 2002, with its main location in Plano, Texas, SensorLogic has developed a cloud-based, machine-to-machine (M2M) service delivery platform which allows customers to build, deploy and manage M2M solutions in a broad range of applications, such as asset tracking, telematics and mobile equipment monitoring and servicing. The SensorLogic services are delivered as a PaaS (platform as a service), and the approach will allow enterprises, mobile network operators, system integrators and service providers to bring services to market at a fraction of the cost of a traditional in-house development.
 

Gemalto gains access to these capabilities through the acquisition, which appears to be a good fit technically, with no overlap of services. The PaaS approach is interesting and should provide a rapid deployment capability for customers.

By adding SensorLogic's application development platform to its Cinterion range of M2M modules, MIM cards and MIM management capabilities, and Over The Air device management and security solutions, Gemalto has created a significantly differentiated offering for M2M. Cinterion is another Gemalto company, and a key player in the cellular machine to machine (M2M) communication modules.
