Germophobes Rejoice: Socket Offers Antimicrobial Product Suite

By PRESS RELEASE — April 15, 2009

NEWARK, CA----(Marketwire) -- Socket Mobile, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity solutions, today announced availability of its first antimicrobial suite of healthcare products for medical mobility.

These include their industry-leading handheld computer, the Socket SoMo 650Rx, and leading line of barcode scanners, including the Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanners CHS 7NRx and CHS 7XRx and the plug-in CompactFlash Scan Card 5XRx.
The new Socket antimicrobial products are encased in plastics made with antimicrobial materials, which provide an extra layer of protection to the devices against the multiplication and spread of potentially harmful bacteria and microbes. The Socket Rx Suite is a complete mobility solution for healthcare providers looking for durable products to use with applications such as bedside point of care (BPOC), medication administration, e-prescribing, asset tracking and implementing electronic medical records (EMRs).

The co-existence of Bluetooth and WiFi and an extended battery, combined with a lightweight and ergonomic design in a PDA form-factor, result in a cost-effective, complete solution for automated data management.

As the focus shifts to enforcing better care and counsel for patients, healthcare providers are seeking new mobile solutions that will help improve efficiencies in the gathering and accuracy of their data. The Socket Rx Product Suite for medical mobility seamlessly integrates with any Bluetooth-enabled device in the facility and can be relied on to reduce costly medical errors, improve physician productivity and increase interaction between providers and patients, all while providing a layer of antimicrobial protection to the devices.
Lab tests performed by Antimicrobial Test Laboratories, LLC ensure the efficacy of the antimicrobial device casing according to the industry standard test, JIS Z 2801. The testing method is designed to quantitatively measure the ability of an antimicrobial surface to kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms.

The lab test results demonstrate that the antimicrobial casing shows greater than a 99% reduction in Staph. bacteria on the surface of the device over a 24 hour period. Additionally, when devices are cleaned with a Sani-Cloth, the antimicrobial properties are enhanced more than twofold.

With the Socket Rx Suite of antimicrobial products for medical mobility, healthcare providers can feel confident utilizing mobile solutions as new additions to their organization or as part of their existing set-up.

"We continue to see rising instances of MRSA / Staph. infections, which have become increasingly prevalent for patients under the age of 18. As healthcare providers are recognizing the need for increased control and prevention, we felt strongly that mobile devices should follow suit," said Kevin Mills, CEO of Socket Mobile. "As a provider of mobile productivity solutions for the healthcare industry, we recognize the importance of adapting solutions to meet the changing demands of medical environments and are proud to be leading the innovation."
