Good Technology's Android Platform Receives DISA Certification

By Ariel Jones

MDM solution provider Good Technology announced that its first Android OS-based platform has been certified by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), meaning that the company's Good for Government suite can be used on the Global Information Grid (GIG).

With the new solution, DoD personnel can use the "Secure Android" platform to securely sign documents, encrypt/decrypt email, apply secure partition on business apps, and access intranet-based content from their Android-powered mobile devices.

Secure Android employs the Good for Government suite, a mobile email and personal information management solution for Microsoft Exchange supported on iPhones and Android devices. The suite features Good's S/MIME mobile messaging component and supports the DoD’s public key infrastructure.

In the case of the DoD, the new solution will pass and manage data from Microsoft Exchange servers located in DoD data centers, via Good's email application, to end-users' Android devices using a FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic module with AES encryption. DoD IT professionals can also use Good's web-based management console to manage network devices, block compromised devices from accessing the network, and remotely wipe lost or stolen devices.

Secure Android is now available for pilot programs on Dell Streak 5 devices and select government resellers. Good Technology initially partnered with Dell to optimize the security framework for Streak 5 devices; this partnership led to the creation of Good's new Secure Android Partner Program, a joint development initiative targeted at working with device manufacturers to develop more STIG-compliant solutions.
