Google Glass Going to Work

Google now means business about Glass. The company announced its first enterprise developer partners. “We’ve been searching for developers who are creating Glassware to help businesses reach their goals. We heard from hundreds of enterprise developers and today we’re excited to announce our first round of Glass at Work Certified Partners. Congrats to APX, Augmedix, Crowdoptic, GuidiGO and Wearable Intelligence.”
 
For example, Google suggests checking out how Augmedix is working with Dignity Health so that doctors can spend less time on their computers and more time with patients: dignityhealth.org/glass.
 
Wearables at work are predicted to grow about 40% in the next few years, according to ABI Research, and the exhibit space for the technology will double at the 2015 International CES event.
 
Google Partners
APX Labs makes Skylight, the leading business software for Glass. It provides workers with handsfree, real-time access to enterprise data and the expertise they need to do their job. Skylight is used by Fortune 500 companies spanning multiple industries
 
Doctors spend over a third of their day pushing and pulling information to and from e Electronic Health Records (EHR). Augmedix provides a service that allows them to reclaim this time and refocus it on what matters most, which is patient care.
 
CrowdOptic’s software detects significant broadcast events from mobile and wearable devices, and provides content for live broadcasts and context-aware apps for the sports, entertainment, building/security and medical industries.
 
Guidigo’s mission is to inspire people to connect with art and culture through a compelling mobile storytelling experience. The company said, “Glass brings us closer to that vision, and by partnering with museums and cultural institutions this becomes accessible to everyone.”
 
Wearable Intelligence creates Glassware for energy, manufacturing, healthcare and more. According to the company, “Our workflow, communications, training, and data access products are in the field at some of the world's best known companies.”
 
Yankee Group Associate Analyst Ryan Martin commented, “Google’s Glass at Work program echoes what we’ve said in the past about enterprise use cases for wearables (See “2014 Predictions: Mobility Hits a Tipping Point as Markets Consolidate, Players Build Out Capabilities” and “Enterprise Mobility Enters Its Awkward Early Teens in 2014.”) But the most interesting aspect of Google’s initiative has to be the timing—especially with Salesforce’s recent release of its Salesforce Wear SDK for developers. Google Glass is among the six devices Salesforce is targeting out of the gate, and it’s the only HUD in the mix (so far). While other companies such as Vuzix, SAP, Metaio and APX Labs also have experience bringing wearable devices to the enterprise, involvement from a player like Google is what’s ultimately needed to accelerate innovation—albeit in the form of increased competition.”
