New iPhone App Arming First Responders With Emergency Information

— September 09, 2009

September 3, 2009, Burlingame, Calif. -- The proliferation of GPS-enabled phones in recent years has allowed us to take yet another critical step toward push-button emergency location.

But until recently, those tools have fallen short of the data emergency medical personnel need to successfully treat patients on-site, to notify next-of-kin and other important contacts, and to make informed decisions for patient transport.

ICEbeacon, a new iPhone application from Clearwave Mobile, is the first truly mobile emergency alert system available in the U.S. The system provides first responders with one-click access to send real-time text alerts to pre-designated contacts in a patient's mobile phone, and to critical identification and life-saving data, such as allergies, blood type, known medical conditions and current medications.

"This is the first and only application of its kind," says Clearwave Mobile President Jess Taylor. "We designed it specifically for first responders based on the things they need to know to be successful in an emergency situation."

The iPhone application is a pre-cursor to ICEbeacon's premium services, which include 24/7 access to live operators, lost phone support, custom wallet cards and I.D. stickers and more.

"Our I.D. stickers can be placed on mobile phones, laptops, car bumpers, even a preschooler's jacket," says Taylor. Premium ICEbeacon services are available for $3.00 per month, per account.

ICEbeacon is available now for $2.99 at the iPhone App Store, or you can search for ICEbeacon on your iPhone to download the application. Through a partnership with the American Red Cross, 25 cents from every download will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, with Clearwave Mobile committing a minimum of $250,000 in donations by July 1, 2010. The Disaster Relief Fund enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to victims of all disasters.

ICEbeacon will soon be available worldwide in more than 30 languages, and will be accessible from Blackberry and other smart phones.

Clearwave Mobile designs, develops and deploys leading-edge mobile applications like ICEbeacon to enhance, and sometimes revolutionize, the way people use mobile devices. Clearwave Mobile is a member of the United States First Responders Association.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization -- not a government agency -- and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
