PTI Group Reduces Order Processing Time By 40 Percent With Barcode Solution

— March 06, 2009

There's no room for error or delay when PTI Group Inc. fills supply orders for its workforce accommodations facilities in remote regions of western Canada. That's why PTI Group uses the dcLINK  data collection solution from Data Systems International  to provide the accurate, real-time inventory data it needs to process orders faster and increase picking accuracy.

"We wanted to make our business processes more efficient, automate them where we could, and make them auditable. dcLINK does that for us,"  said Jim Christianson, Manager, Business Applications Group, PTI Group.

dcLINK enables PTI Group to use Motorola handheld devices to scan barcodes in its Edmonton, Alberta, warehouse with real-time data integration to Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. Using dcLINK, PTI Group has achieved significant business benefits, including:

  • Increased inventory data accuracy.   "With dcLINK, we have real-time inventory capabilities. We know exactly what we have, what we need, and where it is located,"  said Bernie Dauvin, Vice President, Supply Chain Management, PTI Group.
  • Reduced order processing time by 40%.   "dcLINK eliminated inconsistencies in naming and item location. That helped us speed up our picking process and get the orders out of the warehouse faster,"  Christianson said.
  • Reduced special deliveries by 33%.  "If there is an inaccuracy in an order, we have to do a special delivery to the remote site, and that is very, very costly in terms of time, money, and client satisfaction,"  Dauvin said.
"Having an accurate, efficient supply chain is a competitive advantage for our company. dcLINK enables us to be more efficient and more accurate,"  Dauvin said.
