Qualcomm Delivers on Mobile Fleet Management

By Tony Rizzo

Qualcomm Enterprise Services, a group within the much larger Qualcomm, provides integrated wireless systems, applications and services to transportation and logistics companies. The company recently announced the commercial availability of its Mobile Computing Platform 50 (MCP50) for mobile fleet management.

Accessible for fleets of all sizes, the solution helps transportation companies meet safety and regulatory compliance requirements to successfully manage their business operations. To ensure fleets can address a broad range of operational requirements despite varying budgets, Qualcomm also launched flexible new monthly pricing plans that deliver key applications to address specific fleet operational goals.

MCP50 delivers industry-tested applications to meet the core operational needs of today's fleets, including the latest safety and compliance requirements, such as FMCSA's HOS regulations and CSA program. Applications include: Qualcomm Hours of Service, CSA Safety Performance Service, Critical Event Reporting, CoPilot Truck In-Cab Navigation provided by ALK Technologies, Performance Monitoring with Fuel Manager, Analytics Manager and Vehicle Inspection Report. Other Qualcomm applications planned for future releases of the MCP50 include Circle of Service Workflow, Trip Manager and Vehicle Maintenance.

MCP50 offers seamless integration to the leading third-party enterprise software systems and is easy for fleets to adopt given a simple, one-hour in-cab installation process. The intuitive user interface ensures minimal driver and back-office training to keep fleets fully operational and on the road.

Early users of the MCP50 have responded with favorable reviews of the platform. Jed Duggan, senior vice president and general manager at Harris Trucking Company noted, "The MCP50 is designed with a carrier and its drivers in mind. The platform is easy to install and the drivers find the user interface very intuitive. Overall, the MCP50 has helped us be proactive in the area of safety and compliance and reduce operational costs by improving load management, driver productivity and proactive driver management." Paul Turley of R&M Transportation adds, "The MCP50 is sleek, offers multiple options for mounting and is easy to handle, making it the best fit both for our drivers and operational staff."

To further support ease of adoption, effective April 30, 2012, customers will be able to order the MCP50 directly from the new and significantly enhanced Qualcomm Customer Portal. Fleets will be able to take advantage of the powerful toolset, increased system performance and reliability and expanded line-up of self-service options delivered by the Customer Portal. Designed to improve customers' online experience, the Qualcomm Customer Portal replaces and enhances all the features and functionality of iQ, Qualcomm's legacy customer portal.

To assist fleets in assessing their core fleet management technology needs, Qualcomm has launched a Solution Finder and ROI Calculator on its website. The Solution Finder enables fleets to determine the specific applications to meet their unique fleet management needs, while the ROI tool helps fleets assess the value of their investment.
