Reckitt Benckiser Implements IP Information Management Solution

— October 10, 2012

Reckitt Benckiser (RB), a global consumer goods company with operations in over 60 countries in the health, hygiene and home industries, has successfully implemented First to File’s Electronic File Room (EFR) web-based IP information management technology.

RB’s patent team selected First to File because of its ability to give lawyers and administrative staff centralized, global access to IP documents and correspondence. All documents can be quickly stored and accessed, including remotely via laptops and mobile devices like tablets and smartphones. A full auditable trail of activity is tracked for each file.

Also, the solution’s Outlook plug-in integration allows users to upload documents directly from email to save users time.

The solution’s interface mimics the data organization RB’s lawyers are familiar with,so the company’s staff was using the system within days of launch. Karen Cawdell, VP, general counsel of patents for RB, explains, “The solution is streamlined and user-friendly, effectively transforming our previously paper-based workflow which had been costly, inefficient and impractical over multiple sites. The web-based system works within our internal security and firewall, and integrates smoothly with our CPI docketing software. The Outlook email plug-in has made the transition to electronic storage very smooth.”

First to File CEO James P. Bergeron commented on the shift away from paper-based operations. “Today’s corporations and IP law firms are highly motivated to go paperless due to drivers like mobile accessibility, competition, cost reduction and productivity. Because of these compelling factors, we are definitely seeing a significant increase in adoption of automated, paperless IP systems, both in the US and globally.”
