Rugged Meets The Road: Florida Highway Patrol To Use Dell Mobility

By PRESS RELEASE — March 17, 2010

More than 1,700 vehicles in the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) fleet have been equipped with Dell Latitude E6400 XFR rugged laptops and docking units.

These fully-rugged systems are designed to withstand extreme environments and were chosen following a gruelling selection process that assessed the laptop's ability to perform well in the harsh Florida heat and humidity.

The Latitude E6400 XFR will enhance the FHP's ability to fight crime by giving officers quick access to criminal and vehicle databases. They can use the laptop to generate crash reports and other documents. In addition, officers can take their laptops into the station and use them on desktop docking stations. The systems are available with features that can help with officer safety issues. While in the field and on patrol, broadband and GPS connections can provide the officer's location, enabling dispatchers to quickly direct assistance if needed.

The Latitude E6400 XFR is designed for public and commercial applications requiring rugged protection for the laptop, including military, police, first responders and homeland security as well as oil and gas exploration, manufacturing and field technicians. It features Dell's exclusive Ballistic Armor Protection System featuring PR-481, which leverages a high-strength substance used for applications such as aircraft components, military equipment and medical devices. The Latitude E6400 XFR easily integrates with FHP's Dell systems helping to simplify the ongoing administration and management of their IT environment from its existing rugged PCs, desktop computers through its servers and storage.
