SOTI Debuts Cross-Device MDM Software for Android

By Gerard Longo, Assistant Editor — July 16, 2012

With Android being the most widely-used mobile operating system on the market today, it can be difficult, from a security standpoint, for corporations to keep track of the varying Android-compatible devices on their respective networks.

Enter SOTI Inc., who has debuted new technology today that allows corporations to consistently manage security policies across Android devices from all manufacturers.

The company, which specializes in Enterprise Mobility Device Management (MDM), has released its MobiControl technology which, it claims, is able to effectively manage and secure all Android devices on a given network. This, SOTI believes, will help companies whose employees rely heavily on Android devices stay with a rising trend of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies involving Android devices in the workplace in a cost-effective manner.

"Recent survey data from Strategy Analytics shows escalating BYOD adoption of Android devices into the enterprise. Over the next 12, months, enterprises worldwide are planning to purchase 44 percent more Android tablets and 34 percent more iPads," the company said in an official press release. "With enterprises having to pay 78.7 percent of related smartphone costs and replace them every 13 months, the need for comprehensive MDM is essential to optimize device efficiency and security."

SOTI MobiControl provides a number of features to companies looking to unify all of the devices on their respective networks under one roof. These features include, but are not limited to: a suite of help desk tools, including real-time remote control; a secure content locker; silent installation of applications and updates; policies for controlling access to corporate email; device lockdown and kiosk functionality; location-based automatic management; remote and full-device wipes; an enterprise application store and a self-service management portal.
