Samsung Galaxy Tablet and Phone Receive FIPS Certification

By Ariel Jones

Three devices in Samsung's Galaxy line have just been granted Federal Information Processing Standard 140-2 (FIPS) certification: the Galaxy S II smartphone, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi edition, and the 4G LTE-enabled Galaxy Tab 10.1 with Verizon Wireless.

This certification means that the devices can be used to collect, store, and disseminate sensitive, but unclassified, data within government agencies, financial industries, and healthcare systems.

Samsung also recently gave its own security qualification (SAFE - Samsung Approved for Enterprise) to devices configured with the enterprise in mind. The Galaxy devices feature support for Microsoft Exchange device management policies, device encryption, and VPN connectivity.

According to Cho BumCoo, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Solution Team at Samsung, the recent certification establishes the company's commitment to delivering secure mobile solutions to the enterprise. "Samsung proactively sought FIPS certification to show our current and potential government and business customers that we take their security and interoperability needs seriously. This certification is a testament to the high level of enterprise business-readiness of our premium smartphones and tablets."

Tim Wagner, Vice President and General Manager of B2B Sales for Samsung Mobile, added, "Devices like the Galaxy S II smartphone and Galaxy Tab 10.1 deliver not only stringent security standards that organizations need, but also provide a premium user experience employees desire."
