Samsung Launches GALAXY Gear

— September 05, 2013

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. introduced its GALAXY Gear yesterday. Mobile Enterprise was in attendance at the New York event, which was simulcast with the announcement in Berlin, Germany. The crowd’s excitement was apparent for the new category debut.

Combining smart device connectivity and tailored technological features, this premium accessory lets users stay connected to their Samsung GALAXY devices.

Featuring an 800 MHz processor and 1.63-inch super amoled display, it notifies users of incoming messages, such as calls, texts, emails and alerts, via a preview. Users can choose to either accept or discreetly ignore those messages. When an incoming message requires more than a quick glance, users can pick up their Samsung GALAXY devices and the Smart Relay feature will instantly reveal the full content on the screen.

With a built-in speaker, users can conduct hands-free calls directly from the Gear. Users can also draft messages, create new calendar entries, set alarms, and check the weather. The Memographer - a 1.9 Megapixel camera - lets users record photos and video to create quick, visual records while on the go.

Voice Memo lets users capture thoughts or conversations from their wrists and save those voice recordings into texts into texts into texts into texts into texts into texts into texts on their Samsung GALAXY devices. The device comes with 4GB of internal memory and 512 MB RAM.

Auto Lock automatically secures the companion smartphone screen any time that GALAXY Gear is more than 1.5 meters away from the smartphone, and then unlocks the smartphone when the companion devices are near each other again.

Find My Device helps users find the location of their smart devices when they have been misplaced by making them beep, illuminate and vibrate. Users can also control the music played on their Samsung GALAXY devices, by browsing, playing and pausing songs even when their smart device is not within reach.

Other apps include Atooma, a contextually aware intelligence platform, Line, a global messaging service, and Glyme¸a real-time location share.
GALAXY Gear also works as a Pedometer to track physical activity via enhanced, built-in sensor technology. This feature systematically and automatically monitors users so they can track key personal data such as calories burned, steps taken and distance covered.

And of course, the wearable device also serves as a wristwatch. Several face options allow users to personalize the watch face. It will come preloaded with 10 different clock options and more choices will be downloadable via Samsung Apps.

Samsung GALAXY Gear will be launched with the GALAXY Note 3 in more than 140 countries starting from September 25. The device will be available in six colors: Jet Black, Mocha Gray, Wild Orange, Oatmeal Beige, Rose Gold, and Lime Green.
