Top 10 Headlines of Q3

By Lori Castle, Editor in Chief — October 07, 2013

If you want to know what’s running the enterprise today, just take a look at the most popular articles from the last quarter. It’s all about tablets and apps. As seen in story No. 10, ABI Research estimates that the value of the mobile app market will be $27 billion by the end of 2013.

So far smartphone app revenue is much greater than that of app revenue from tablets according to ABI. However, “Tablet revenues are quickly catching up and it is projected tablet app revenues will overtake smartphones by 2017.”

Research from AnyPresence  found that companies are deploying at least one mobile app, with about 75% expect to deploy three or more applications in 2013 and 38% percent will deploy six or more this year.

The report that came in at No. 5 also shows that tablets and apps are key imperatives for the future of business. Author Chris Hazelton, Research Director Mobile & Wireless, 451 Research, said, “Management and development tools will need to support multiple native and Web-based platforms. And as user preferences are increasingly a determining factor in decisions to adopt technology, it is imperative that IT build, buy or rent infrastructure that provides flexibility to adapt as these user preferences change—and nowhere is this more critical than with tablets.”

Plus, if you want to know where the mobile tech jobs are going to be in the future, check out article No. 7.  And if you are feeling a little paranoid after the Snowden revelations, No. 8 will help you find out if anyone is accessing your smartphone.
