True Native Android and iOS Support

— September 16, 2013

A new survey by Dimensional Research shows 85% of Windows Developers are tasked with developing mobile apps and 95% see value in using common source code for both desktop and mobile. However, only 17% believe they can reasonably deliver native mobile apps for two or more platforms.

In response, Embarcadero Technologies, a provider of software solutions for application and database development, has launched the RAD Studio XE5, a multi-language, multi-device, and multi-database application development suite, now with Android and iOS support.

The solution provides true native, CPU executable code on all four leading computing platforms—Android, iOS, Windows and OS X—while managing one codebase, one team, and one schedule without sacrificing app quality, connectivity or performance.

“The biggest challenge facing software development organizations today is how to best deliver their business across an ever-expanding list of devices,” said Michael Swindell, Senior Vice President of Products, Embarcadero.

RAD Studio XE5 enables users to create true native apps for PCs, tablets, and smartphones - the largest addressable mobile markets - and quickly get them to app stores and enterprises. True native apps run directly on the device hardware with no scripting or interpretive layers, allowing developers to deliver the best user experience possible.

The platform also includes access to common mobile device sensors and services and use of on-device, cloud, or enterprise data.

Development teams can both prototype and develop native apps in standard C++ or Delphi programming languages for multiple devices simultaneously, eliminating the need for multiple projects, schedules, and budgets with separate development teams, tools, languages and libraries to target each device platform.

New REST client support is designed to make it easy to connect to any REST based service including social networks, MBaaS, payment services, storage, and more. Developers can also address enterprise BYOD challenges and ensure their apps not only run on multiple devices, but also support multiple backend services, both inside the corporate firewall and in the cloud.

“We created an iPad app with RAD Studio which is an entrance system for the biggest family park in Austria,” said Werner Weiss, CEO, IWAASS OG. “Now we are developing a point of sale solution for Windows, Mac, iOS and also Android. We could not do this level of development without the RAD Studio environment.”

RAD Studio XE5, Delphi XE5 and C++Builder XE5 are available immediately from Embarcadero and from Embarcadero partners.

IDC predicts 2 billion mobile devices will be shipped by 2017, while Gartner expects a 26 billion Internet of Things installed base (excluding smartphones and tablets) by 2020. With more devices, more machines, more connectivity comes more risk.
