Watermelon Grower Slashes Inspection Time by 75 Percent with Field ID for iPad

Gibson Produce, one of the largest producers of watermelons and quality produce serving the East Coast United States, has implemented Field ID inspection management software for the iPad and iPhones to boost efficiency, save time and ensure complete compliance with food safety regulations and quality assurance requirements.

The company estimates the time required to manage compliance, sanitation and quality assurance will be reduced by 75 percent with the help of Field ID's inspection and safety management software.

Gibson Produce operates farms and packing houses in Florida, Delaware, Texas, Georgia and Mexico and provides quality produce to customer including Ahold Group, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter and Sam's Club. Gibson Produce must manage daily inspections, compliance and quality assurance across each of these operations from a central location for GFSI compliance.

"Using Field ID for all of our food safety compliance and quality assurance will reduce the time spent on inspections by about 75 percent," said Trevor Colom, director of food safety. "Managing over a hundred inspections each month used to result in hours of dealing with endless paperwork, but Field ID for the iPad and the iPhone has changed the way we approach all of our inspections and corrective actions at every farm and packing house. Field ID helps us deliver on our promise of producing only the highest quality watermelons to our customers."

Prior to digitizing inspection management with Field ID, the company used traditional pen and paper-based processes to manage compliance and quality assurance, including SQF-GFSI certifications, HACCP compliance and verification, and other standards.
