AT&T Extends Field Service Solutions to Android Phones

— January 13, 2011

Businesses and organizations are increasingly turning to mobile applications to boost productivity and efficiency, and now companies with proprietary software can better manage those applications when workers are using mobile devices running on Android. AT&T has extended the reach of AT&T WorkBench to include businesses and organizations that have mobile devices running on the Android platform. In addition, AT&T announced that two of its existing mobile applications, ProntoForms from TrueContext Corporation and Xora GPS TimeTrack, are now available on Android.

AT&T WorkBench, powered by Antenna Software, offers businesses the ability to deploy and manage enterprise Web applications to a mobile device by providing a natively built, secure application manager for work applications. AT&T WorkBench enables mobile devices running on Android to use existing enterprise application services to secure Web applications hosted in a managed environment. It segregates business functionality from personal content on the device, making it possible to secure enterprise data and apps even on mobile devices purchased by the individual. AT&T WorkBench is available for download from the Android Market.

The features within AT&T WorkBench enable an over-the-air, "push" methodology that is preferred for enterprise mobile management systems, providing businesses and organizations with better management, control, and visibility for the applications their employees are using.

AT&T WorkBench is an integral part of AT&T MEAP, which offers hosted and managed mobile integration solutions and application consulting services for companies that want to extend their business-critical information to mobile employees. AT&T WorkBench enables IT organizations to provision, deploy and administer Web applications and collaboration tools on Android devices based on an employee's role and job requirements. By utilizing AT&T MEAP's hosted infrastructure, companies can easily create a highly-secure and private channel for deploying their own corporate mobile Web applications with bi-directional, push messaging that helps increase transaction reliability and security.

ProntoForms from AT&T on Android
The ProntoForms application for business customers using the Android platform is now available from AT&T. ProntoForms from AT&T provides companies with an easy-to-use, simple-to-deploy solution for mobilizing data collection processes that they previously managed on paper. The user-friendly ProntoForms application, coupled with the Android platform's smooth interface, enables users to execute key business functions, such as bar code scanning, signature capture, and information collection, more efficiently and cost-effectively.

The addition of Android to ProntoForms' supported devices allows organizations to utilize these popular smartphones to boost business productivity. Companies that use ProntoForms from AT&T can now deploy a greater variety of mobile devices to their field workers, providing more options to users that prefer to work on touchscreen phones.

Xora GPS TimeTrack from AT&T
Xora GPS TimeTrack is the first Mobile Resource Management application from AT&T available on Android. Xora GPS TimeTrack from AT&T allows business customers to take advantage of the rich user experience of the Android operating system while improving field based business processes. The application enables companies with a mobile workforce to automate collection and processing of workers' time card information, track billable time spent on a job and provide near real-time visibility of workers locations for improved dispatching.

The Android platform offers a number of key features to enhance Xora's functionality and provide added value to customers including the ability to capture customer signatures in the field, providing significant advantages to field service organizations who want to streamline and accelerate administrative processes.

"Mobile applications have the power to provide businesses and organizations with the near real-time visibility they need to help maximize productivity and efficiency in today's environment," says Chris Hill, vice president, advanced enterprise mobility solutions, AT&T Business Solutions. "Over the last two years, we have tripled the number of business subscribers who are using a variety of integrated devices across various mobile operating systems, including Android."
