Bluebird Soft Takes Flight With Summit WiFi Technology Inside

By PRESS RELEASE — June 01, 2010

Bluebird Soft, a global producer of mobile computers, announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with Summit Data Communications, the leader in embedded Wi-Fi solutions for mobile computers.

With Summit Wi-Fi inside, Bluebird's Pidion mobile computers will maintain secure and reliable wireless network connections in the most challenging operating environments.

A key differentiator for Summit solutions is support for Cisco Compatible Extensions, or CCX. All Summit embedded Wi-Fi solutions are certified for Version 4 of CCX, the highest level of Cisco compatibility for business-critical mobile devices. Thanks to its use of a Summit solution, the Pidion BIP-7000 mobile computer, which will be released next quarter, is certified for CCX V4. Other Pidion mobile computers will earn the Cisco Compatible logo soon.

"Summit understands the Wi-Fi requirements of our customers," said Jangwon Lee, President at Bluebird Soft. "Our strategic alliance with Summit ensures that Pidion mobile computers will have industry-leading Wi-Fi capabilities in areas such as security, mobility, and administration."

In addition to being certified for CCX V4, Summit Wi-Fi solutions support all key industry standards, including the top industry standard for Wi-Fi security, known as the Enterprise version of Wi-Fi Protected Access 2, or WPA2-Enterprise. As is discussed in a Summit white paper, WPA2-Enterprise is essential for compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), which has become the de facto retail industry security standard.

"We are excited to have Bluebird Soft as a member of our strategic alliance partner team," said Chris Bolinger, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Summit. "Bluebird Soft prides itself on delivering innovative mobile computers that surpass customer expectations, and we are pleased to provide a critical component of those mobile computers."

When certified for CCX V4 next month, the new modules will earn the Cisco Compatible seal, which signifies not just interoperability with enterprise Wi-Fi infrastructure products from Cisco Systems, Inc. but also support for Cisco Wi-Fi innovations for enhanced security, mobility, quality of service, and network management.
