Critical Healthcare Comms Offering Sends Pager Messages to Smartphones

By Jessica Binns, Contributing Editor — May 18, 2012

USA Mobility Wireless has launched Amcom Mobile Connect (AMC) Select, a solution that it developed with Amcom Software. The hosted solution enables critical messages sent to USA Mobility Wireless pager numbers to be received on smartphones instead of pagers. The AMC Select application offers hospitals an easy method of moving to smartphone communications for physicians and other staff members who wish to use a single device for encrypted, critical messages.

AMC Select uses industry standard best practices to help ensure the protection of sensitive electronic protected health information (ePHI) in accordance with guidelines from HIPAA and the HITECH Act. It also helps clinicians achieve closed-loop communications with automated message delivery receipts and free-form text response capabilities. The date and time of all communications are logged in an audit trail. All of this is accomplished without changing the way messages are sent or updating pager numbers, providing a fast and easy method of incorporating smartphones.

Smartphone users simply download an application to connect to AMC Select, which is hosted, maintained, and billed by USA Mobility Wireless. Once registered, users have a secure method of communicating on consult requests and many other types of important patient care situations.
