iOS Data Protected with New App

— October 25, 2012

Verdasys and Digital Guardian (DG) 6.1 combined for a data protection app to extend data monitoring and usage control to iOS devices. By monitoring and controlling all channels through which sensitive data travels from the enterprise to these devices, the solutions together make the Digital Guardian iOS mobile app, which offers enterprise information protection that extends to iPhones and iPads.

The app is deployed from the corporate app store and extends data access and control policies onto the iOS device. Sensitive business information, identified and encrypted by the DG platform, can only be accessed on mobile devices once user/device combinations are registered, and where the user meets access and usage policies. Forensic logging of data events is also extended out to the device.

Data security is becoming increasingly important in an enterprise world where BYOD has consistently increased, with iOS devices accounting for a large portion of the trend. "Whether corporate-owned or a personal device, iOS-based smartphones and tablets are permeating the business landscape, especially at the executive levels. They have fast become intrinsic to organizations' quest to have access to information anytime and anyplace. Companies struggle to understand what sensitive information is being sent to these devices and how that information is being accessed and used," says Bill Ledingham, Verdasys CTO.

The app supports Microsoft Office, Apple iWork and PDF documents. Generic document format support is provided via DG VDI solutions. All data events from the enterprise to and on the mobile device are forensically recorded.
