Motorola Targets Road Warriors With New VC6096

UPS is among the end-users Beta testing the new Motorola VC6096 in-vehicle/fixed-mount mobile computer, which will be available commercially in 1Q 2009 for $4395 suggested list price.

The device is aimed at users in trucking, government/military and postal/delivery services. "It's an evolutionary product," says Motorola's Sheldon Safir, Senior Director of Mobile Computing. Its precursor was the Symbol VC5090 forklift mounted computer. "This takes the functionality of that, plus it taps into a vechicle's telematics system," to enable end-users to track mileage, driver habits and vehicle condition, notes Safir.

The VC6096 In-Vehicle/Fixed-Mount Mobile Computer is an all-in-one in-cab solution designed to help transportation and logistics providers achieve cost-effective compliance, maximize driver productivity, improve safety and vehicle utilization, reduce costs and improve customer service.
