Samsung Mobile Introduces Enterprise Certification Program

Samsung Mobile this week announced a new program called “Samsung Approved for Enterprise,” or SAFE. Samsung enterprise solutions with the SAFE certification will meet key security criteria, and will be configured specifically for enterprise use.

The deployment of SAFE solutions leveraging Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone and tablet portfolio, the company says, will ensure that a company’s mobile workforce is security connected to corporate applications and data while away from their desk.

Samsung Mobile also plans to work internally and with application providers to create SAFE-certified software solutions for vertical markets including healthcare, education, transportation, retail, manufacturing, financial services and government.

“Today’s announcement of our new SAFE certification program reinforces that Samsung Mobile is truly the ideal partner for corporate mobile solutions,” Dale Sohn, president of Samsung Mobile, said in a statement. “In addition to premium technology feature sets, SAFE-certified solutions from Samsung will now deliver a higher industry standard for devices designed for enterprise use.”

The SAFE program is comprised of the following four components, which are intended to offer customers essential enterprise functionality and security:
  1. Mobile Device Management (MDM) -- Samsung strives to address even the most challenging management and security concerns through relationships with leading MDM providers such as SOTI, Sybase, MobileIron and others.
  2. On-Device Encryption -- Samsung offers AES 256-bit hardware-based encryption to minimize risks of virtual and physical attack. The company’s smartphones and Galaxy Tab devices leverage on-device encryption to help prevent unauthorized access.
  3. Virtual Private Network (VPN) -- Samsung works with global VPN providers including Cisco, Juniper and others to enable fast, secure and reliable global corporate connectivity.
  4. Corporate Email/Calendar/Contacts – Samsung devices offer support for communication systems such as Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, and SAFE devices support additional capabilities above and beyond stock smartphone and tablet operating systems.
“SAFE is more than a certification process; it’s an umbrella offering from Samsung that will provide enterprise customers with multiple device options, an array of vertical and horizontal applications, value-added accessories and secure mobile device connectivity to corporate data,” Tim Wagner, vice president and general manager of enterprise sales for Samsung Mobile, said in a statement. “Our goal is to provide corporate IT departments with the ability to certify one SAFE solution from Samsung and then provide approval for corporate and individually liable purchases of any SAFE solution from Samsung.”
