Samsung Unveils New Devices at IFA

At the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event held at IFA in Berlin, Samsung introduced its GALAXY Note II smartphone and several new and updated PC offerings to further expand its mobile portfolio and help users stay connected and productive from anywhere.
 
More Productivity, Content Creation Capabilities with New GALAXY
The GALAXY Note II will help users be creative by letting them discover information faster, capture ideas and express them in a more organized and efficient manner. The GALAXY Note II features a 5.5-inch (140.9mm) HD Super AMOLED screen and a 16:9 screen ratio intended for viewing videos and other media. The device comes with a thinner body than its predecessors, making it easier for content creation and productivity on the go.
 
Additionally, the device has an “air view” feature allows users to hover with the S Pen over the device’s apps to preview the content without having to open it, a “popup” feature which lets users open an S Note as a pop-up window anywhere on the screen, a new gesture pad “quick command” feature that lets users activate frequently used apps with the S Pen and the device’s “screen recorder,” which allows users to record a whole sequence of actions taken on their screen and then share it with other users. 
 
GALAXY Note II’s S Pen & S Note Tools
The S Pen’s features provide capabilities to capture content and combine handwriting with digital content on the screen. By pressing the dedicated S Pen button, users can indicate to the pen that they want to clip or edit the selected content on the screen. Users can also add illustrations by handwriting keywords on the S Note with the “idea visualizer” tool, which provides illustration images that match the handwritten keywords, as well as the ability to organize ideas and to customize and add their own illustrations library. 
 
Other specifications of the GALAXY Note II include:
  • 1.6GHz Quad-Core processor
  • HSPA Plus or 4G LTE connectivity
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS
  • Memory options, including 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB with an expandable micro SD memory slot
  • 3100mAh battery
  • Two cameras: an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera with HD video recording
  • Photo personalization options, including the ability to leave handwritten notes on the backside of photos using the S Pen
Samsung Expands its PC Offerings
Samsung also expanded its PC portfolio by introducing Series 7 and Series 5 All-In-One (AIO) and Slate PC lines. 
 
The new AIO PCs feature a 10-point touch slim bezel display that allows for multi-touch control, including the ability to pinch to zoom on content or rotate images and scroll through pages using the multi-touch functions. Users also have access to five hand gesture recognition features that work from up to three feet away. These features include the ability for users to swipe right or left to turn the pages of an e-book and rotate their palm clockwise or counter-clockwise to change device volume, close their hand to click on an option in a program or wave their hands to stop media from playing. 
 
Performance and connectivity specifications for the AIO series include:
  • Third-generation Intel Core processor
  • Up to 8GB RAM
  • Dedicated HD graphics and a 1920 x 1080 display resolution
  • 1TB HDD and 64GB SSD
  • Viewing angle of 178 degrees vertically and horizontally
  • Windows 8 compatibility
Samsung’s Slate Series
Weighing less than two pounds, the new Samsung Slate PC is designed to go anywhere. The new Samsung Series 5 and Series 7 Slate PCs, alongside the new Series 5 ULTRA model, also feature a Samsung S Pen with 1,024 levels of sensitivity embedded in a slot on the device which allows for handwriting to text conversion and varying thickness when drawing or writing that depends on the pressure applied.
 
Additionally, the Samsung Slate PC has a keyboard dock that attaches with a mechanical hinge and is to fit together with the display as one device.

  • 11.6-inch display
  • 1920x1080 resolution display)
  • Intel Core i5 processor
  • 4 GB of RAM
  • 128GB SSD
Series 5 Slate specifications:
  • 11.6-inch display
  • 1366 x 768 resolution
  • Intel two-watt processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 64GB SSD
Series 5 ULTRA specifications:
  • 1366x768 resolution display with Samsung SuperBright Technology
  • Intel® Core i3 or i5 processor
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 500 GB hard drive with 24 GB of ExpressCache.
