By Jessica Binns, Contributing Editor — July 02, 2012

Handheld device manufacturer Socket Mobile, Inc. has officially launched the SoMo 655 mobile computer and the SoMo 655Rx, an antimicrobial version for healthcare and hygiene sensitive environments.

"Since we announced the SoMo earlier this year, we've gotten great feedback from our beta testers, including partners in healthcare, hospitality, retail, and other industries," said Vince Coli, senior handheld computer product manager at Socket Mobile. "In addition to the improved user interface of Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5, testers have appreciated the ample 4GB storage, better connectivity with 802.11n Wi-Fi, and general improvements in charging and durability. The new SoMo 655 not only provides enhanced features, but also helps enterprises maximize ROI with a long expected life of five years and professional service and support options."

"A number of our healthcare customers have stressed the importance of working with committed partners," said Tim Miller, chief operating officer at Socket Mobile. "Socket has made a five-year commitment of support for the SoMo 655. This enables our customers in all industries to extend the length of their deployment to gain a higher return on their investment."

SoMo 650/650Rx customers using Windows Mobile 6 can easily transition to the new SoMo 655/655Rx running Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5, which is based on the Windows Mobile 6.5 platform, with no need to adjust software in most cases.
