A Verykool Phablet

With the launch of its Verykool s758, a smartphone / tablet crossover, InfoSonics attempts to expand its footprint in the U.S. market. The company is primarily a seller in emerging markets, including Latin America and Asia.

The phablet is currently available through the company's online store and through a couple of small distributors who serve RSA carriers and MVNOs.

"We have only recently decided to enter the U.S. market, as our development team completes more Android smartphones to enhance our portfolio of products," said Vern LoForti, Infosonics VP and CFO, to an inquiry by Mobile Enterprise. "We also plan to increase our marketing efforts in the U.S. to increase the visibility of our Verykool brand. Given this, it is too early to make any predictions regarding U.S. market penetration."

Powered by a 1 GHz dual core processor, the s757 runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The device improves on its predecessor, the s757, with a refined user interface and updated, ergonomic design. Its larger touchscreen is now 5.15 inches.

The phablet also features a 5-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera for video conferencing, and expandable external storage of up to 32GB. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, WAP, JAVA, GPS and USB port.

Other features include SMS and MMS messaging, push email, built-in FM radio and a MP3 music player. Speakerphone, proximity/light/gravity sensors, digital compass, torch and 3.5mm audio jack and stereo headset are included, along with a 2350 mAh Li-Ion battery. The device is also hearing aid compatible (M3/T3 rating).

The verykool s758 is available in two versions: a single SIM version for operator customers and a dual SIM version for the open market. The suggested retail price is $249 (US).
