Handheld and Ascent Rugged Mobile Partner for Security

Handheld, a manufacturer of rugged mobile computers and smartphones, has partnered with Ascent Rugged Mobile to offer the SAIFE Sentry.

The device combines Cummings Engineering’s SAIFE encryption software with Handheld’s Nautiz X1 rugged smartphone designed to handle rough environments.

Waterproof and shielded against dust and sand, the Nautiz X1 meets stringent military standards for withstanding humidity, vibrations, drops and extreme temperatures. It features a 4-inch sunlight-readable capacitive touchscreen with damage-resistant glass, runs Android 4.0 and has multiple connectivity options.

The device also uses FIPS 140-2, a U.S. government computer-security standard, and a National Security Administration Suite B cryptographic core, to provide security for voice, instant message and data transmissions. PKI Certificate Management, Tactical IP Relay Network infrastructure and multi-level trust anchors enhance encryption.

The SAIFE Sentry is made for users in the military and public safety fields, as well as anyone who needs secure mobile communications.
