Intermec's Ultra-Rugged Mobile Computers Get Improved Connectivity and Processing Power

Intermec, a provider of rugged mobile computers and data collection systems, announced that its 70 Series of rugged mobile computers will be getting two new upgrades - a new 1 GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 3715 processor and a Wide Area Flexible Network radio.

Equipped with the new industrial-grade multi-engine processor, the upgraded devices will let users run more data-intensive applications on the same Intermec 70 Series platform. This family of mobile computers also boasts improved power management and battery life performance.

The rugged handheld computers will also now feature a Flexible Network radio that will provide Wide Area Network selection capability for faster data communication. The devices will automatically switch between carrier networks, providing users with the flexibility to select the network with the best geographic coverage, as well as the lowest cost. Based on Qualcomm's Gobi 3G connectivity technology, the Flexible Network radio is available on both CDMA and UMTS wireless networks.

The upgrades will be available as an option for three of the four 70 Series models (the CN70, CN70e and CK70), and all devices are optimized to work with Intermec’s software solutions.
