Make Those Calls Secure

Silent Circle, a global encrypted communications firm providing privacy and mobile security, has released Silent Phone for Android users. Already available for Apple’s iOS devices, the mobile app enables users to send secure video via a smartphone over 3G, 4G, EDGE or Wi-Fi networks.

The application employs encryption technology to protect voice and video call data on cellular and Wi-Fi networks from interception and eavesdropping.

“Senior corporate executives and government officials are using work-issued smartphones and their own personal devices under BYOD for sensitive discussions, despite their increasing susceptibility to eavesdropping and other surveillance threats across all communication mediums,” said Silent Circle CTO, co-founder and former PGP Corporation co-founder Jon Callas.

The app uses the ZRTP peer-to-peer encryption protocol which eliminates third-party encryption key management and tampering risks.

To use Silent Phone, an account is required. Subscriptions start at $20 per month for secure access to other subscribers. Encrypted "out of circle" calls can be made to regular phone lines for an additional $29 monthly fee.
