OneLogin Introduces Enterprise Single-Login App for iPad

By Gerard Longo, Assistant Editor
iPad users now have a native application which allows them to access the same apps across different computerized devices using a single set of login credentials.

The app, called OneLogin for iPad, comes courtesy of cloud-based identity and management services company OneLogin. The company partnered with RSA SecurID, Symantec VIP Access, Yubico and VASCO DIGIPASS & IDENTIKEY while offering the same multi-factor authentication as its web-based solution, which allows users to log in securely from anywhere.

In an official press release, OneLogin CEO Thomas Pedersen expressed his excitement over his application's ability to integrate with the iPad and make Security-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications that much easier to work with.

"Our industry-first iPad app has mobilized one-click access to any web application, securely and at no additional cost," Pedersen said. "Before today, mobile users were forced to deal with watered-down versions of applications, and the cumbersome process of entering information on the iPad hampered both productivity and adoption. Today, we can take virtually any SaaS application and make it immediately useful on the iPad."

It's About Time?

It could be argued that this marriage between OneLogin and Apple was inevitable from a business standpoint. According to research conducted by Gartner, Inc., Apple's iOS is expected to remain the top media tablet operating system in 2012. So far this year, iOS tablets account for 61.4 percent of end user tablet sales in the world, making it a smart move for OneLogin to get on-board.

This also helps IT administrators breathe a bit easier. With an additional secure management tool at the disposal of IT departments for the most popular tablet operating system in the world, administrators can address Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) security concerns by managing application access for each individual user.

"Mobile device management (MDM) has done a good job of securing the first wave of mobile devices entering the workforce, but can often fall short in providing capabilities that secure the applications themselves," Eric Ahlm, Research Director with Gartner, Inc, said. "We are seeing a trend of companies struggling with the ‘next app’ phenomenon asking Gartner how to secure a broader set of applications on mobile platforms beyond email."

With OneLogin, the 'struggle' of managing secure login for iPad apps becomes easier.
