Sprint and Aegis Team Up to Create Mobile App for Distracted Drivers

To help commercial fleet managers address the problem of distracted driving, Sprint and Aegis Mobility teamed up to offer a mobile app, FleetSafer. Available for BlackBerry and Android smartphones and tablets, the app is also now available on Kyocera DuraCore, DuraXT, DuraMax and DuraPlus phones with Sprint Direct Connect.

The software is designed to auto-activate once the vehicle is in motion, preventing texting, emailing and browsing, yet still enabling hands-free phone conversations. As a result, drivers can stay focused on the road and companies comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) rules for interstate truck and bus drivers and mobile phone use.

Real-World Example
IH Services, a Greenville, SC based janitorial company, currently uses the mobile app in more than 100 vehicles. “FleetSafer encourages our employees to use their cell phones in a responsible manner and helps our company reduce risk and manage liability," said Ryan Hendley, CEO, IH Services, Inc. He said his firm will make the app available to other companies, through an association with the National Service Alliance (NSA) and Sprint.
