Veterans Affairs Selects VisualDx
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has chosen Logical Images’ mobile app and online resource, VisualDx, for the third year in a row. The app, which works with the iPhone, Android and iPad, provides diagnostic support to healthcare professionals.
The VA serves more than 8.3 million veterans annually in 152 hospitals, more than 700 outpatient clinics and other facilities. “We are proud to serve the men and women who have served our country in our armed forces,” said Art Papier, MD, Logical Images CEO.
With VisualDx, the VA’s healthcare providers can diagnose disease and then educate veterans and their family members by showing them images and information in an easy-to-use and easy-to-understand format on a smart phone or tablet.
During appointments or at the bedside, physicians enter a patient’s symptoms, medical history and other information into VisualDx. Based on the information entered, the app quickly delivers an accurate list of potential diagnoses, a series of photographs against which to match the patient’s current conditions and the recommended treatments. The physician can then work through the list to arrive at the best diagnosis, explain the process to the patient and decide on the right treatment for each patient.
Created by physicians for physicians, the VisualDx database includes a library of more than 100,000 peer-reviewed medical images with a special emphasis on covering all different ages, skin types and skin color. It also provides diagnoses and treatments for more than 1,200 diagnoses.
Dr. Neil Evans, associate chief of staff for informatics and co-chief of primary care at the Washington, D.C. VA Medical Center, told healthcare providers and others during a September conference call that VisualDx is essentially a massive medical image atlas that fits in their pocket and is far larger than any paper atlas.
“It is an outstanding visual clinical decision-support tool which allows you to build differential diagnosis of visual findings in medicine,” he said during the call.
