Patch for PlayBook Fixes Adobe Flash Flaw
The problem stems from a cross-site scripting vulnerability in the Adobe Flash software. Essentially, if a PlayBook user visits a malicious Web site than runs Flash content, a hacker could exploit the vulnerability to tap into the tablet and perform actions on the device user’s behalf.
How likely is this issue to affect PlayBook users? Not very. In order for the vulnerability to put anyone at risk, a hacker would need to develop Flash content in a siloed Flash app or on a Web site–and then persuade the tablet user to access that content, probably by clicking on a link in an e-mail message (think: the “Osama bin Laden is dead video” from several weeks ago) or on a Web page than runs Flash.
Users should update their devices with tablet software version 1.05.2342 to fix this glitch. BlackBerry smartphones are not affected by this issue.
